The research unit was difficult. When we chose what our topics would be a couple months ago, I didn't know what to do because either someone had already taken what I was planning on or we'd already covered the topic. So when I looked at the map, I chose the first thing I saw: Portugal. We hadn't studied it yet and it hadn't been taken so I thought "why not?" If I could redo that project, I would've chosen something different. Don't get me wrong, I really did enjoy discovering more about Portugal and presenting it but there were many obstacles. One of them was the fact that we would actually learned about Portugal and the slave trade later in the year. When I'd chosen Portugal, I didn't know we'd end up learning about it and the result made the project very frustrating. I had to cut out lots of information that could've tied to other topics that I'd be mentioning. Another obstacle was the fact that Portugal, unlike the places being chosen by the rest of my classmates, lasted very long, all the way up to the 1990s. Thus, many of the information I managed to obtain was modern or based upon Brazilian culture (because Brazil was part of the Portuguese empire). I couldn’t use modern information and Brazilian facts weren’t what I was looking for. I think my presentation itself went very well, I spoke well and my work was organized and neat. I messed up on the works cited and accidentally left out some facts but overall I managed and it turned out great.
